A modern fuse box with proper protection, usually fitted in a day

Consumer Unit & Fuse Box Upgrades

Your fuse box (the consumer unit, in the trade) is the heart of your home's electrics, and an old one is the weak point we find most often. A modern board cuts the power in a fraction of a second when something goes wrong, which protects you from a shock and your house from an electrical fire. If yours still has rewireable fuses, a wooden back board or no safety switches, it's well worth upgrading.

We test every circuit before the changeover so there are no surprises, fit a quality board with surge protection as standard, label everything clearly and walk you round the new unit before we leave. The work is tested, certified and notified through our NAPIT registration, and most swaps are finished in a day with only a short break in your power.

What's included

Circuits tested first

Every circuit is inspected and tested before the swap, so hidden faults are found and priced honestly up front.

Protection on every circuit

Each circuit gets its own safety switch, so a fault in one room never blacks out the whole house.

Surge protection built in

Your TVs, computers and appliances are protected from damaging power spikes as standard.

Certified and labelled

A clearly labelled board, fully tested and certified, and walked through with you so you know what does what.

Fuse boxes questions, answered

How much does a new fuse box cost?

It depends on the board and your circuits, so we confirm one fixed price for your exact job before any work starts. No surprises on the invoice.

How long will the power be off?

Usually just a few hours in the middle of the day. We plan the changeover so the disruption to your home is as short as possible.

Why does my new fuse box trip when the old one never did?

Modern boards catch faults the old one silently ignored. That's exactly the protection you're paying for. We test every circuit at changeover, so anything the new board flags is found and put right.

Do I actually need a new fuse box?

If yours has rewireable fuses, a wooden back or no safety switches (RCDs), it's worth upgrading. If yours is fine, we'll tell you so. We'll never sell you a board you don't need.
