An EICR, or Electrical Installation Condition Report, is a thorough inspection and test of the fixed wiring in a property: the consumer unit, the circuits, the sockets and the earthing. It tells you in plain terms whether your installation is safe to keep using or whether anything needs putting right. Derby has a real spread of housing, from the dense Victorian terraces around Normanton and the Arboretum to the between-the-wars semis and the modern estates out at Chaddesden, Oakwood and Chellaston, and older wiring is exactly what a report like this is built to assess.
We work methodically through the whole installation, then set out our findings clearly with every observation coded by how urgent it is, so you can see at a glance what's genuinely unsafe and what's simply worth noting. We're NAPIT registered and City & Guilds qualified, we work to the 18th Edition wiring regulations, and anything notifiable we certify and notify to Building Control for you. Before we test a single circuit you get one fixed written price, so the cost is settled up front with nothing creeping onto the invoice later.

Your questions, answered
How long does an EICR take in a Derby home?
Most domestic reports take a few hours depending on the size of the property and the number of circuits. A two-bed Normanton terrace is quicker than a larger Allestree or Chellaston home. We confirm the likely timing when we quote.
How often should I have an EICR?
For an owner-occupied home the usual guidance is around every ten years, or sooner if you notice problems or are buying or selling. Privately rented homes need one at least every five years.
What happens if the report comes back unsatisfactory?
We explain exactly which items caused that result and what's needed to put them right, then give you a fixed written quote for any remedial work. There's never any pressure to go ahead on the spot.
