Duffield is a sought-after village about 5 miles north of Derby, where the River Ecclesbourne meets the Derwent. It has large family homes, period houses and quiet tree-lined roads.
Homes of this size and age often need updated wiring, better lighting and proper circuit protection. We look after a lot of them. Rewires, fuse box upgrades, lighting, EV chargers and fault finding: you get a NAPIT-registered team and a tidy finish every time.
We are based at Boulton Moor, on the south side of Derby. Duffield is a regular run north for us. We have no office in Duffield, so we come to you.
Railway homes, Rolls-Royce houses and 1950s estates
Duffield is an old village. Before the railway, people here worked as framework knitters, in corn mills and with iron. The railway came in 1840. Homes for railway workers and managers soon followed.
From the 1910s, Rolls-Royce in Derby brought bigger houses up Hazelwood Road. Council homes went up on Holloway Road. More homes were built on Wirksworth Road and at Flaxholme in the 1930s and 1940s. Then in 1957 Wimpey built estates by Wirksworth Road. That took the village to about 5,000 people.
The old heart of the village is the Duffield Conservation Area, first marked out in 1969. Duffield Bank has its own conservation area too.
So the wiring here spans more than 100 years. A 1957 Wimpey house is now close to 70 years old. It was wired for far fewer appliances than a family uses today. A period house may have had new circuits added many times over.
What we get called out for in Duffield
Rewires in 1950s homes
Many homes from the Wimpey years still have old wiring. We plan the work to keep mess and fuss down, then certify it when we finish.
Fuse boxes and RCDs
An old fuse box gives little protection. We fit a modern consumer unit with RCDs and test every circuit before we hand it back.
Checks after flooding
Parts of Duffield flooded in October 2023. If water reached your sockets or board, have them tested before you use them again. We make it safe and tell you what needs replacing.
Lighting and EV chargers
Bigger homes here often want garden lights, outside power or a charger on the drive. We fit them neatly and test them.

What we do in Duffield
Electrician in Duffield, questions answered
My Duffield home is in the conservation area. Can you still rewire it?
Yes. Inside work like a rewire usually goes ahead as normal. If the house is listed, check with Amber Valley Borough Council first. We take care with old walls, floors and plaster.
Is it safe to use my electrics after a flood?
Not until they have been checked. Water can get into sockets, cables and the board. Switch off at the board if you can reach it safely. Then call us and we will test the circuits before you turn them back on.
How much does a rewire cost in Duffield?
It depends on the size of the house, how many circuits you want and how easy it is to get under the floors. We look round first. Then you get one fixed price before we start.
Ready for electrics done properly?
Free fixed quotes across Derby and Derbyshire. Certified work, an immaculate finish and a price that doesn't move.
